Laneisha Lennon hit the go-ahead free throw with 18.1 seconds left to give Canton McKinley a dramatic 49-47 win over Toledo Waite in the Division I championship game Saturday night — a contest that wasn't decided until after time had expired.
After Ameryst Alston made a free throw for a two-point lead with 6.6 seconds to go, Waite (24-2) brought the ball up and had a final chance off an inbound pass with 0.9 seconds to play.
Shanice McNeal took the inbounds pass and was fouled by Lennon as time expired.

The sixth-ranked Waite Lady Indians basketball will square off against the ninth-ranked Lady Pups of Canton McKinley in tonight's Ohio High School Athletic Association State Basketball Championships Division I final at 8:30 p.m. (televised live on Sportstime Ohio).
It marks the second year in a row that a City League team appears in the DI final.
Last year, Toledo Start lost to five-time defending state champion Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame 52-38.

Jackson High School recently won the state team title at the annual speech and debate competition.
The school captured first place with 60 points.
Perry High School finished as runner-up, giving Stark County the top two spots in Ohio.
The schools are part of the Ohio High School Speech League.

Reynoldsburg City Schools is preparing an adjustment to how high school is being taught for the 21st century.
The district is planning to utilize both high school facilities to create what's called interest-based academies, meaning the schools will function as small learning communities in a larger setting.
"If you can break it down and know the kids well ... teaching and learning improves," Assistant Superintendent Dan Hoffman said at the March 16 school board meeting.

When the last second evaporated off the clock a year ago and Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown had finally captured an elusive state championship, coach Paul Barlow allowed himself a sigh of relief.
The previous two years the Blazers had made it to Ohio's Final Four at Value City Arena in Columbus only to leave with a loss.
The 52-46 victory over Wapakoneta gave them an end to the anxiety -- at least for another year.

The tears flowed freely after the Twinsburg girls basketball team's loss March 12 at the Canton Civic Center.
Maybe it was because the Tigers were one quarter away from Columbus and came up short.
Maybe it was because two of the players who led Twinsburg to state prominence would move on without reaching the state final four.
